The Corythosaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous period. Recognized by the helmet-shaped crest of bone on its skull, it measured around 9 meters in length. This crest, which could be up to 1.5 meters long, was probably used for communication or social display, rather than defence. The Corythosaur fed mainly on plants and lived in herds on the flood plains of North America. Although less famous than some of its dinosaur cousins, the Corythosaurus remains a fascinating example of the diversity of prehistoric life.
