The kiwi (depending on the species) can be variable in terms of size. It is roughly similar to a chicken in size. It has small wings but cannot fly. Its legs are short and sturdy and it has no tail. Its feathers look like hair and are usually brown and sparse. It is found in New Zealand in wooded and scrubby areas up to 1,200 metres in altitude. It likes to live in burrows in tree trunks, or under ferns which it digs in the ground with its powerful claws.
